Install steps
-
Step 1
Pick the right build
On the download page, choose the Windows x64 or x86 package matching your system. The self-extracting EXE is convenient for direct install; the ZIP package is better if you want to choose the extraction directory yourself or if security software is more sensitive to self-extracting files.
-
Step 2
Verify the file (optional but recommended)
After the download finishes, compare the SHA-256 digest with the value on the download page. A matching digest means the local file matches the build published by this site; it is not a complete promise about your runtime environment, antivirus decision, or game behavior. PowerShell's Get-FileHash works out of the box.
Get-FileHash .\PVZ-Voyage-<version>-Windows-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256If the digest does not match, delete the file and download it again or use a mirror listed here.
-
Step 3
Handle the SmartScreen prompt
Because this is a fan project without a commercial code-signing certificate, Windows SmartScreen may say "Unrecognized app". This usually comes from Windows reputation checks and does not by itself prove that the file was modified. After checking the source and SHA-256 digest, if you still choose to continue, select "More info" → "Run anyway".
-
Step 4
Handle antivirus warnings
Some antivirus engines may flag unsigned self-extracting files heuristically. Check the source and SHA-256 first. If the digest matches, you may add only the game directory to exclusions, or use the ZIP build and unpack it manually. Do not disable all real-time protection just to run the game. The FAQ has more detail.
-
Step 5
First launch
Double-click PlantsVsZombies.exe inside the extracted folder. The first launch creates a save directory at C:\ProgramData\PerfectVoyage. Back it up before updating or moving devices. If launch reports a missing DLL, install the matching Visual C++ Redistributable and required DirectX runtime from Microsoft sources; do not download individual DLLs from third-party DLL sites.
If something still goes wrong
If the steps above did not help, check the FAQ for SmartScreen, antivirus, missing DLL, black-screen / crash, resolution, and save-location answers. When reporting the issue, include the version, platform, download source, OS version, error message, and screenshot where relevant. Public community posts are not the right place for unredacted account names, email addresses, paths, or personal information.
